The Chrysler PT
Cruiser was produced from 2001-2010 as a retro styled compact hatchback. The PT Cruiser was originally designed to be
a Plymouth vehicle but its production was moved over to the Chrysler brand as
the Plymouth brand was discontinued. Although in all practical uses the PT Cruiser
is a compact car, it was specifically designed by Chrysler to qualify as being
classified as a lightweight truck by NHTSA in a deliberate attempt to increase
the average fuel economy for their truck fleet. The PT Cruiser sold over 1.35 million units
worldwide and was sold with available options such as powered moonroof, cd
player, and remote keyless entry.
